I had the honor of meeting Major General Ihor Hordiychuk, who is currently the head of the military academy in Kyiv.

Hordiychuk is a legendary soldier in Ukraine, having fought the separatist forces in the summer of 2014, when the conflict escalated in the East. Outnumbered and under-equipped, he and his men were holding a strategically important location, Saur-Mogila for 12 days.

He is one of the recipients of the highest military award, the Hero of Ukraine.

He was severely wounded while trying to retreat from a position he and his men of special forces were holding. The general's survival and nearly 2 year long recovery is nothing short of a miracle.

Our meeting resulted in two videos: one about him, another one about how he sees the conflict.

The first, 7 minute long video below is an introduction to him. It is divided into two parts: his military background 00:00 - 02:30, and the story of his injury and recovery 02:30 - 06:50.

Apologies about the typo in the beginning.

The second, 10 minute long video is about his views as a military man regarding the conflict.
